IN a major move for the broadband market in Rajasthan, the
largest Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Rajasthan, Data
Infosys Limited (DIL), on Tuesday took over its main
competitor, Tantra online, the broadband managed by Jain
Infotech Limited, with this acquisition, the DIL, has
emerged as the market leader amongst the broadband ISPs in
the State. Earlier, Tantra, with a subscriber base of around
1,000 customers in the city, was the leader and the DIL was
placed second with the 600 customers. Now with a total of
1,600 connections, Data Infosys has a market share of 80 per
cent in the city. DIL managing Director Ajay Data Said
elaborating that it was Tantra who approached us with the
acquisition proposal and expressed their instability to
operate without help two months ago. Jain Infotech Ltd Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Jain confirming the takeover
of his Company’s ISP division.
Data said that “we are also open to taking over other small
cable ISP’s in north India.” Other Players in the Rajasthan
market include Sify and Dishnet. When queried, Data denied
to disclose the amount paid to take in over Tantra. This was
so, as both DIL and Tantra were under oath not to reveal the
amount as they had both signed a six month disclosure
agreement (NDA).
He added that all customers and existing employees of the
brand (Tantra) would be looked after under the DIL brand.
The latter’s broadband services are operational in Jaipur,
Jodhpur, Alwar, and Kota. Data said that the DIL was
planning to expand its service to Udaipur, Ajmer and
Sriganganagar along others.
Efforts were also on to take it’s services to the city’s
suburbs such as Sitapura Industrial Area and Vishwakarma
Industrial Area (VIA). ”By the end of this year, we want our
broadband connections to touch 10,000” across Rajasthan,”
Data Said.
The DIL broadband connections are available for rates
between Rs. 333 per month to Rs. 999 per month for an
“unlimited” broadband connection.
After acquiring Tantra Online DIL emerges as a leader in
broadband services in state Jain Infotech approached DIL
with the acquisition proposal, two months ago. DIL is also
open to acquire other small cable ISP’s .The Company plans
to expand it’s services to Udaipur, Ajmer etc. |
